So my most requested post was one about self-confidence and while i’m sure you’ve heard all the usual stuff about how its supposed to work, when it comes to applying what we’ve learned its almost as if we’ve learned nothing at all. I mean, you’d think all these professionals and therapists who take time to write books would take into account actually being human …
While I myself appear to still be a mere mortal, I have been through quite a bit in terms of low self esteem & major anxiety. For a few years I had tried time and time again to motivate and encourage myself to stop being a depressed slob-kabob and reach for my actual potential. Honestly, it took me some time to even get the confidence to have confidence, which is something on its own. I do however have the best confidence tips that have stuck with me and actually made a difference in the way I carry myself. Keep in mind, Rome wasn’t built in a day.
Photoshop – Crop and edit the way you see yourself, take away the negative thoughts and embrace all the good things instead. Do you have talents? Passions? Understand your personal value ( which is VERY high ). Instead of seeing yourself as your mistakes, see yourself as everything you can and want to be. Visualize yourself as the person you would like to become.
Get to know yourself – Analyze the way you feel and the way you behave, understand why you feel that way how that chain reacts your thinking. What really makes you happy? What are you most passionate about? Would you like to further your education? Advance in your career ? Perhaps you’d like to dive into something you’ve always been too scared or intimidated to do, I say go for it!
Prepare yourself – First of all let me just say, before you can adjust anything else in your life you have to take care of yourself. I know I personally always feel my strongest and best when I look put together and i’m well organized.
- Get into a skin care routine
- Drink water! ( trust me this is absolutely true )
- Take a vitamin
- Exercise to clear your mind and get your blood flowing
- Get some sleep
- Wake up early to maximize your day’s potential
- practice telling yourself you WILL have a good day and that you WILL accomplish everything you’ve set up for yourself.
Get Organized – Clear your space, clean out the closet, rearrange your room or even go extreme home makeover and recreate your personal space. A little clutter removal and reorganizing goes a long way in making you feel more confident because it gives you a calmer, lighter feeling. Plus you’ll be able to move and get things done in the time you’d like.
- Lay out your clothes the night before
- Don’t let things pile up ( dishes, clothes, work or promises )
- Don’t take too much onto your plate – give yourself space
- Make those lists
- Slowly add things to your day
- Be productive before playing
Change one thing at a time – Start with small habits you’d like to break and gradually your other goals will unfold like a domino effect, your health and productivity all go into each other. I myself am working hard on this ‘ Self- Discipline’ thing, seemingly its not too bad but for a procrastinator like me its my arch nemesis.
- Cut out sugar & processed foods
- Eat a more plant based diet
- Express your energy and emotions
- Set small reachable goals and keep track of them.
- Try being social – even if it’s just family
Stand Tall – The way you walk speaks volumes about how people perceive you before they ever meet you. Walk tall, shoulders back and chest forward ( not like a fighter pilot, way more chill than that ) your feet should be just in front of your hips. Don’t just step, STRIDE. Make every opportunity to walk an opportunity to be on the runway, command silent attention and I guarantee you will feel the energy in the moment. The more you practice standing and sitting up straight the more it will come naturally to you. Even if you don’t feel confident, yup i’m gonna say it, fake it till you make it. The more you act like you are who you are the more you become that person. You have to believe in yourself more than you doubt.
Being confident doesn’t happen over night, or even after just a day, however, it is built in the little moments that we do conquer. Don’t worry about being like anyone else or how fast other seem to be moving or progressing, focus only on yourself. Dig your roots deep, water yourself with positive affirmations and change and always search for the sunniest side to reach for the sky.
